Women’s Tennis rolls to CCC Semifinals

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team advanced to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Semifinals with a 5-0 win over Salve Regina in the quarterfinal round of the CCC Tournament.

With the win, the Hawks move on to face the #3 seed Gordon College Thursday at 4:00 p.m. Salve Regina (3-9) bows out from the tournament but will face UMass-Dartmouth next Thursday.

Harley Kaiserman (Setauket, N.Y.) and Caroline McCarthy (Carver, Mass.) began the day for Roger Williams with an 8-0 victory at #3 doubles over Anna Godshalk (Orleans, Mass.) and Abigail Burke (Harwich, Mass.). Julia Akerman (Greenwich, Conn.) and Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.) followed with an 8-3 win at #1 against Kasey Walther (Natick, Mass.) and Emma Gruber (New Canaan, Conn.), while Kathryn Hughes (Westford, Mass.) and Gabrielle Riley (Barnstable, Mass.) defeated Julie Grant (Warwick, R.I.) and Caroline Rodman (Southington, Conn.) at #2 by the same score.

At singles, Riley brought the Hawks to within one point of the match win with her 6-1, 6-0 win over Grant at the #6 flight. Akerman then followed shortly after with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #4 against Courtney Bailey (N. Dartmouth, Mass.) to send the Hawks to the semis.
