New London, CT.- The Roger Williams University wrestling team stays undefeated 6-0, at Fridays Dual meet against The United State Coast Guard Academy and The University of Southern Maine. The Hawks defeated Southern Maine 45-9 and The United States Coast Guard Academy 34-9
The hawks started off strong as sophomore
Nicholas Barbaria defeated Casey Abshire.
Justin Cochran won his weight class at 141 defeating Brendan Weir and Senior
Zachary Marcoulier also won his weight class at 152 defeating Matthew Wheeler. Also, bringing home victories are sophomore Pete Hilburn RWU defeating Aaron Pierce senior
Chris Cornwell defeating Steven Corio and
David Welch defeating Mike Risti
In the Hawks second match against The Coast Guard Academy, the Hawks ran out to an early 15-0 lead on their way to a 34-9 victory. 125 started off in favor of sophomore
Nicholas Barbaria who pulled away in the third round for a 7-4 decision over Roberts giving Roger Williams and early 3-0 lead.The Hawks gained another decision at 133 with senior
Dan Roger topping Summers 8-4 pushing Roger Williams lead 6-0. 149 was another close match that went in the favor of the Hawks as freshman
James Knoeller took the 14-11 decision against Vieira. The next round saw another 1-0 decision which went in favor of the Hawks with senior
Zachary Marcoulier taking the victory over junior Mike Palomba increasing Roger Williams lead to 18-3. 174 saw a battle of two of the top wrestlers in the nation as senior
Dan Ressler, ranked eighth by the NWCA, earned a major decision over Mike Shermot winning 13-5 bringing the score to 22-3 Hawks.
Roger Williams finished up the night with a forfeit victory for senior
David Welch at 197 and then junior
Kyle Foster, ranked fourth by the NWCA, pinned sophomore Cory Tomasetti in 4:25 giving the Hawks a 34-9 victory over the Bears.
