Women’s Tennis gets first win in Florida against SUNY Oneonta

Box Score KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team earned its first win on its Spring Break trip down in Florida, collecting an 8-1 victory over SUNY Oneonta Tuesday morning.

The Hawks swept all three doubles matches, with Julia Akerman (Greenwich, Conn.) and Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.) defeating Michelle Spencer and Brynn Sussman 8-4 at #1. Harley Kaiserman (Setauket, N.Y.) and Caroline McCarthy (Carver, Mass.) followed suit with an 8-5 win over Samantha Felice and Kelly Gochan. In the Hawks' third win, Lauren Fletcher and (Bristol, R.I.) Mary Terranova (North Andover, Mass.) wrapped up the doubles sweep with the hard-fought 9-8 (5) victory over Samantha Butcher and Marina Salzano.

In singles play, the Hawks took five of the six matches, with Sussman recording the lone win for SUNY Oneonta at #1 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Schmidt. McCarthy and Garbrielle Riley (Barnstable, Mass.) each earned 6-0, 6-0 wins at #4 and #6, respectively, while Kathryn Hughes (Westford, Mas.) won 6-3, 6-1 at #2 over Gochan. Kaiserman and Ali Stankiewicz (Brunswick, Maine) grabbed the last two wins for RWU, defeating Spencer and and Butcher at #3 and #5.

Roger Williams (12-6) wraps up the trip Thursday against Simpson College.
