Wheaton holds on for win over Field Hockey in season opener

Box Score NORTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team had its 2015 season opener spoiled by Wheaton College Wednesday evening, as the Lyons defeated the Hawks by a 5-2 score.
 
The Lyons got on the board early with Amelia Gage scoring just over a minute into the game. Kelsey Buckley and Ellen Gulezian added goals in the eighth and 32nd minute to give Wheaton a 3-0 lead.
 
RWU's Elizabeth Whitney (Norwalk, Conn.) tacked on the first score of the season with a goal in the final minute of the first half to bring the Hawks within two going into halftime.
 
Katherine Mahoney (West Suffield, Conn.) pulled Roger Williams within one with a goal in the opening minute of the second half. However, the Hawks were unable to pull closer as the Lyons grabbed two more tallies in the 51st and 58th minute by Katie Peters and Brooke Dugan.
 
Riley Thompson earned the win for Wheaton, making four saves in the game. Mya Lunn fell in her first collegiate start, stopping eight shots for RWU.
