Women’s Tennis rolls to win over Western New England

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team improved to 3-0 with a 9-0 victory over Western New England University Tuesday afternoon in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match.

The Hawks began the day with three wins at doubles play. Kathryn Hughes (Westford, Mass.) and Gabrielle Riley (Barnstable, Mass.) combined for a 9-0 win over Jessica Breitweg (Bohemia, N.Y.) and Alice Mathews (Scarborough, Maine) at #3, while Harley Kaiserman (Setauket, N.Y.) and Caroline McCarthy (Carver, Mass.) won 8-2 against Kelly Byrnes (Berlin, Conn.) and Christina D'Agostino (Bohemia, N.Y.) at #2. Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.) and Julia Akerman (Greenwich, Conn.) earned the last win for RWU, beating Lauren Sell (Milford, Conn.) and Joeanna Glantz (Agawam, Mass.) 8-3 at #1.

At singles, Schmidt moved into sole possession of second place on the RWU all-time singles wins list, picking up her 48^th career win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over D'Agostino at #3. Kaiserman Won 6-1, 6-2 over Sell at #1, while Hughes defeated Glantz 6-2, 6-2 at #2. Akerman and Ali Stankiewicz (Brunswick, Maine) earned a pair 6-0, 6-0 wins at #4 and 5, while Riley collected the other win for RWU, a 6-1, 6-1 decision at #6 against Petra Martinelli (Vernon, Conn.).
