Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team dropped its third straight contest Thursday evening, as the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth earned a 3-0 non-conference victory over the Hawks.
Â
UMass-Dartmouth logged the first goal of the game in the 13
th minute, taking advantage of the possession off of a penalty corner. Ciara Anderson (Medway, Mass.) got the ball and attempted a shot on goal. A heads-up play by Hunter Carden (Branford, Conn.) allowed her to put a stick on the ball and deflect it into the left corner of the goal for a 1-0 Corsair lead.
Â
The Corsairs added another tally in the 30
th minute. Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.) launched a long, hard pass to the right side of the goal to Delaney Burns (Wayne, N.J.). Burns would collect the pass and tap in a shot to put UMD up by two.
Â
The Hawk offense was stifled in the first half. Roger Williams managed to get multiple opportunities in the scoring area, but could not get the pivotal score. RWU put up six shots in the period, but had five of them turned away by Corsair keeper Ariel St. Germaine (Wareham, Mass.).
Â
Early in the second half, Hawk keeper
Mya Lunn (Marion, Mass.) did a strong job keeping the deficit at only two. The Corsairs earned seven consecutive penalty corners over a four-minute stretch. Lunn would turn away five of their six shots over that stretch to keep UMD off the board.
Â
However, Mary Brown (Leicester, Mass.) scored the final goal of the game, grabbing the loose ball in the scoring arc and burying a shot in the upper left corner.
Â
St. Germaine finished the game with seven saves in the shutout win. Lunn had nine stops for RWU in the loss.
Â
Roger Williams (3-12) will host Western New England University Saturday afternoon as part of Homecoming Weekend. UMass-Dartmouth (5-11) will also be at home on Saturday against Western Connecticut State University.
