Late Tally Pushes Gordon Past Field Hockey

Box Score WENHAM, Mass. — Emily Allcroft's (Haydenville, Mass.) slap shot with three and a half minutes remaining in regulation sent Gordon to a 1-0 win over visiting Roger Williams in the season finale for both teams. Offense was hard to come by in the rainy conditions, but Gordon finally put one in off of a penalty corner to take the season series with the Hawks.

Gordon improves to 8-11 on the season and 5-7 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Fighting Scots just miss out on the postseason, losing out on a tiebreaker to Salve Regina for the final spot in the CCC tournament. Roger Williams finishes its season at 4-15 and 3-9 in the conference.

Much of the game was played in the midfield with conditions less than desirable on the slick turf. Only a handful of shots landed on goal for either side over the first 67 minutes until Allcroft finished off her 10th goal of the season toward the end of regulation. Caroline Conte (Amesbury, Mass.) offered the assist on the only goal of the game after saving a penalty corner from going out the end line, finding Allcroft alone in front of the net.

Roger Williams had two good looks in the final moments, but Shannon Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) came up with a pair of sprawling saves to keep the clean sheet in her final collegiate game. Hicks made four saves, all in the second half. Hawks' keeper Mya Lunn (Marion, Mass.) made two saves, while MaryKathryn Slattery (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) made one defensive save.

Gordon held a slight 13-9 advantage in shots, but both teams managed four attempts on frame. The Hawks had the advantage in penalty corners at eight to seven.

The Fighting Scots now lead the all-time matchup 6-2.
