Bristol, R.I.- The Roger Williams University wrestling team had another big as they faced The College of New Jersey, Centenary and Hunter on Saturday January 30
th. The hawks defeated Centenary 36-7, Hunter College 47-0 and tied TCNJ 15-15.
The Hawks broke the season record for wins which recently stood at 19 wins, the hawks currently have 21 wins this season.
David Welch also, broke Joe Fitzsimons 2004 record for career wins with 140 wins.
Francisco Colom had his 100
th career win and
Chris Cornwell had his 50
th career win.
The hawks first faced off against Centenary for their first dual.
Justin Cochran (Paramus, N.J.) started it off for the hawks with a decision over Jeffery Rottingen in 141. The hawks did not slow down as they went on to win the next 6 matches against Centenary.
Dan Ressler (Hillsdale, N.J.) defeated #2 ranked in the nation, Joshua Sibblies with a decision in 174. The Hawks took the victory over Centenary 36-7.
The second dual of the day the Hawks would dominate Hunter College winning every weight class. Jean- Luc Lemieux (Derry, N.H.) had a decision over Jayden Rice in 133 to bring in eight points for the hawks.
Zachary Marcoulier (Southborough, MA) would follow with a decision over William Heine in 157 to bring in nine points for the hawks.
David Welch (Salem, N.H.) had the toughest match facing off against Dennis Melendez in 197 going into two overtimes but coming out on top bringing in five points. The Hawks defeated Hunter 47-0.
The toughest dual of the day the hawks would face The College of New Jersey. Jean- Luc Lemiwux (Derry, N.H.) would start it off again for the hawks with a decision in 133 bringing in five points. Daniel Downes (Houston, TX) also had a decision over Steven Schneider in 149 to bring in eight points for the hawks. Despite the next two wins for TCNJ,
Dan Ressler (Hillsdale, N.J.) would come back for the hawks with a decision over Doug Hamann in 174 bringing in four points.
Kyle Foster (Somers, CT) would finish it for the hawks, with a decision in 285 over Kyle Cocozza to bring in seven points. The Hawks would tie with TCNJ 15-15.
The Hawks also had athletes at the Wildcat Open with four wrestlers placing in their respected weight class.
