Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team picked up its second win of its Spring Break trip with a 9-0 victory over Alfred University Monday afternoon.
The Hawks only played five matches total against Alfred, as a number of Saxon players suffered from an illness that prevented them from taking part in the match. As a result, RWU picked up four wins via default.
Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.) and
Julia Akerman (Greenwich, Conn.) earned an 8-0 win over Emma Siemen and Rachel Pera at #1 doubles, the lone doubles match of the day.
Schmidt would later defeat Nurila Kamban 6-0, 6-0 at #2 singles, while
Gabrielle Riley (Barnstable, Mass.) won her match at #4 singles over Pera by the same score.
Ali Stankiewicz (Brunswick, Maine) earned a 6-1, 6-0 Abby Williams at #3. At #1,
Kathryn Hughes (Westford, Mass.) held a 2-0 lead over her opponent before Siemen had to retire.
