Field Hockey Falters Against Endicott

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team suffered a 0-2 setback to Endicott College Saturday in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.

Endicott had two chances to score in the first two minutes of the game. Emylee Wood (Kensington, N.H.) had a shot that just sailed wide, while Maggie O'Reilly (Cheshire, Conn.) put a shot up that was blocked by a Hawk defender.

The Gulls would eventually get on the board in the 16th minute, with Emily Hirtle (Rowley, Mass.) logging her third score of the year. She took a penalty corner which eventually found the stick of Samantha Crowley (Leicester, Mass.). Crowley and Hirtle each put up shots that were saved by Hawk keeper Mya Lunn (Marion, Mass.), but the third time would be the charm for Hirtle to give EC the 1-0 lead.

Roger Williams had difficulty getting into their offense, as Endicott held RWU to only three shots in the first half. RWU's best chance at scoring came with just under five minutes remaining, when Sydney McCarthy (Little Falls, N.Y.) gained possession on the left side of the goal. She would tap a shot towards the goal that was dove on by EC keeper Cheka Ventura (Lawrence, Mass.)

After being outshot 12-3 by Endicott in the first half, the Hawks began to get more possessions in their offensive half of the field. In addition, RWU managed to limit Endicott's scoring chances, holding the Gulls to only three shots over the first 20 minutes of play.

However, the Hawks weren't able to convert those possessions into goals. Endicott conversely would add an insurance goal with just under four minutes to play. Madi Wood (Bristol, Vt.) would pass the ball to O'Reilly off of a penalty corner, and had her shot deflect off of a stick and over the keeper into the left corner of the goal.

Ventura earned the shutout win, making four saves on the day. Lunn collected nine saves in the loss.

On Tuesday, Roger Williams (0-5, 0-2 CCC) travels to Nichols College while Endicott (3-2, 2-0 CCC) heads to the University of New England.
