Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Two first-half goals helped Johnson & Wales put away the Roger Williams University Field Hockey team 3-1 on Thursday evening in the Wildcats' home opener.

Just 10 minutes into the game, Casey Chodkowski (Somerset, Mass.) got the Wildcats on the board when she beat the keeper on the right side from five yards out. The sophomore has scored a goal in back-to-back games.

With under five minutes to play in the half, freshman Morgan Matthews (Bethel, Conn.) gave JWU a two-goal lead with a backhander from seven yards out on the left. The rookie has a goal in two of her first three collegiate games.

The visitors cut the lead to 2-1 on a put back by
Juliana Miccile with 20 minutes remaining. Giovanna Ciavardoni (Latham, N.Y.) iced the game with an insurance goal with less than three minutes left when she stole the ball deep in RWU's end and scored her first goal of the year from 15 yards out.

Recording her first collegiate victory was JWU goalkeeper Claire Nolan (West Bridgewater, Mass.). She turned away eight shots and gave up one goal.
Mya Lunn made three saves for the visitors. Roger Williams had an 18-10 advantage in shots and 8-1 margin for corners.
