Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - Babson College handed the Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team a 9-0 loss in the Hawks' first home match of the 2015-16 season.
Julia Akerman (Greenwich, Conn.) and
Kathryn Hughes (Westford, Mass.) gave Yagmur Akgul (Istanbul, Turkey) and Chloe Brandt (Denver, Colo.) a fight at #1 doubles, but ultimately fell 8-6. At #3 doubles,
Allie Grinavic (North Attleboro, Mass.) and
Gabrielle Riley (Barnstable, Mass.) could not pull out the win over Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) and Tatiana Ramirez (Miami, Fla.), falling 8-5. Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) collected the last win at #2 doubles, defeating
Harley Kaiserman (Setauket, N.Y.) and
Ali Stankiewicz (Brunswick, Maine) by an 8-1 score.
At singles, Akgul earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kaiserman at the #1 flight, while Ramirez defeated Hughes 6-0, 6-1 at #2. Foster would grab a 6-3, 6-1 win over Stankiewicz at #4, with Kam also winning her match at #5, a 6-1, 6-1 decision against Riley.
Taryn Roche (Greenlawn, N.Y.) nearly forced a third set at #6 against Emily Roeper (Belle Mead, N.J.) after dropping the opening set 6-1. However, she would fall just short as Roeper took the second set 7-5.
Akerman would be the only Hawk to take a set at singles, rallying for a 6-0 win in the second set against Weick after falling behind 1-6 in the opening salvo at #3. Weick would come back to win 10-4 in the tiebreak.
Roger Williams (1-1) begins Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Saturday at Western New England University. Babson (3-0) hosts Clark in the team's NEWMAC opener.
