Salve Regina Defeats Field Hockey

Box Score NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina posted a 5-0 victory over Roger Williams University Field Hockey team in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Gaudet Field.
 
Sophomore Ashley Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) scored the game's first four goals and her sister Amber Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) assisted on two of them while adding her 21st goal of the season to lead the Seahawks.
 
Salve Regina leads the all-time series, 9-1, and avenges a loss in the last meeting with the Hawks at Gaudet Field (3-1 on Sept. 22, 2016). The Seahawks clinch at least the No. 3 seed in the upcoming CCC postseason, and a home playoff game as well.
 
Salve Regina sophomore Ashley Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) scored four goals to momentarily tie her sister, Amber, for the team and conference lead. The elder Cody added her 21st goal of the season for the final score.
 
Salve Regina senior Jessie Severino (Branford, Conn.) earned a shared shutout, stopping all six shots she faced in nearly 60 minutes of action.
 
Salve Regina senior Amber Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) scored her conference leading 21st goal of the season while assisting on two goals of her sister, Ashley.
 
Despite being outcornered by the visitors (11-7), Salve Regina had nearly a double-digit advantage in shots (21-12).
 
After denying Roger Williams on an early attack in the second half, including a shot by senior Julianna Miccile (Upton, Mass.) and a penalty corner, Ashley Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) converted another feed from her sister, Amber, for her 19th goal of the season and a 3-0 in the 39th minute.
 
Junior Mya Lunn (Marion, Mass.) made eight saves for the Hawks. Sophomore Anna Vasaturo (Pittsford, Mass.) earned a defensive save for Roger Williams.
 
Brooke Tolley and Emma Gaudio (Cheshire, Conn.) also earned defensive saves for the Seahawks. Salve Regina wins its fourth straight at Gaudet and is 5-1 at home in 2017.
 
Salve Regina (10-5, 7-3 CCC) hosts University of New England on Senior Day for Amber Cody (Pawling, N.Y.), Jessie Severino (Branford, Conn.), and Brooke Tolley (Brookside, N.J.) on Saturday (1 p.m.). Roger Williams (4-9, 2-7 CCC) hosts UMass Dartmouth in a non-league contest on Thursday (7 p.m.).
