Camels Earn Win Over Field Hockey

Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team stepped out of conference play and fell 4-0 to Connecticut College Thursday evening at Silfen Field.

Junior Jamie Navoni (Natick, Mass.) registered her first career hat trick to lead Connecticut College.

Navoni scored the first two goals just 40 seconds apart to set the tone for the entire game. The junior first potted her own rebound at the 16:17 mark before taking a pass from freshman Kaja Hartwell (Hyde Park, Mass.) and firing to the near post shortly afterwards. Senior Meghan Lembo (Southington, Conn.) then redirected a blast taken by classmate Berklee Vaillancourt (Manchester, N.H.) from outside the arc in the 26th minute to make it 3-0 at the break.

The Camels continued to dominate in the second half and continued to pepper opposing goalkeeper Mya Lunn with shots. After several misfires, Navoni most notably completed her first career hat trick by finishing on a breakaway opportunity to seal the final outcome.

Freshman Andi McGraw (Sheffield, Mass.) picked up the win between the pipes for Connecticut College by making one save for Connecticut College. Her defense, which was anchored by Gabby Peterson (Worcester, Mass.) and Lauren Hirshom (Walpole, Mass.), only allowed the Hawks to attempt one shot the entire match. Lunn, who faced 21 shots, suffered the loss despite making eight saves for Roger Williams (3-4).

Connecticut College (2-4) will next face eighth-ranked Hamilton on Saturday, Sept. 23 at noon.
