Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team swept Bridgewater State University 9-0 Thursday afternoon in Bristol, R.I.
In this non-conference match, the Hawks were looking to improve their overall record to 5-2.
The Hawks took all three double matchups.
Kathryn Hughes (Westford, Mass.) and
Julia Akerman (Greenwich, Conn.) defeated Alisha Silva (Taunton, Mass.) and Amanda Strickland (Plymouth, Mass.) 8-1. Together,
Gabrielle Riley (Barnstable, Mass.) and
Heidi Martin (Scituate, Mass.) took down Bridgewater State's Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) and Alison Scangelli (Sutton, Mass.) by a score of 8-4. To complete their doubles sweep,
Ali Stankiewicz (Brunswick, Maine) and
Allie Grinavic (North Attleboro, Mass.) beat Rachel Tarantino (Mansfield, Mass.) and Angelique Gray (Osterville, Mass.) 8-3.
The Hawks continued their winning ways in the singles competitions. Hughes defeated Silva after a marathon deciding set. The score was 6-4, 0-6, 16-14 in favor of the home team. Akerman picked up the win 6-1, 6-2 against Roman. By a score of 6-2, 6-0, Stankiewicz took down Scagnelli.
Taryn Roche (Greenlawn, N.Y.) defeated Strickland in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Grinavic earned a quick victory over Gray 6-0, 6-1. Riley rounded out the Hawks' day with a 6-5, 6-3 win over Olivia Sweeny (Taunton, Mass.).
The Hawks get back into conference play Saturday against Endicott College in Bristol.
