Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team dropped a conference matchup Saturday 8-1 to Endicott College in Bristol, R.I.
The Hawks, who were coming off a 9-0 victory of Bridgewater State University Thursday, looked to roll their winning ways into the weekend against their Commonwealth Coast Conference rival.
The Gulls swept the doubles competitions, beginning with Gretta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Maxine Bergstein's (Hingham, Mass.) 8-6 win over
Julia Akerman (Greenwich, Conn.) and
Jessica Magliato (New Rochelle, N.Y.). Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.) and Haley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) took down RWU's
Gabrielle Riley (Barnstable, Mass.) and
Heidi Martin (Scituate, Mass.) 8-1.
Ali Stankiewicz (Brunswick, Maine) and Allie Grinaic (North Attleboro, Mass.) fell to Gulls Alexandra Barmore (Southington, Conn.) and Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.) 8-3.
In singles competition, Endicott's Barnett defeated Akerman 6-3, 6-2. Stankiewicz lost the first set 7-5 to Hartman then was forced to retire in the second set, which gave Hartman the victory. Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.) picked up a win over Grinavic by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Riley put up a fight against Rahr but lost 6-2, 7-5. RWU's
Riley Spillane (Easton, Mass.) fell quietly to Bergstein 6-1, 6-1.
Taryn Roche (Greenlawn, N.Y.) picked up the Hawks' sole win of the day against Fitzgibbons 6-4, 6-2.
The Hawks fall to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in CCC competition. Endicott rose to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
The Hawks will face another CCC school, Wentworth Institute of Technology, Tuesday in Boston, Mass.
