Wrestling Takes Fourth At Budd Whitehill Duals

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Roger Williams University Wrestling team earned fourth place at the Budd Whitehill Duals this past weekend after going 3-2 against five teams.
 
The Hawks edged past the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a 25-21 victory. Jason Jacobi (Effort, Pa.) and Justin Cochran (Paramus, N.J.) each notched pins on the day for RWU while Tyler Gazaway (New Providence, N.J.) shutout Boone Roycraft with a 9-0 victory at 157.
 
Against SUNY Cortland, RWU rolled to a 25-16 win before advancing to the championship bracket with a 29-15 win over Waynesburg. Tristan Haviland (Trumbull, Conn.) downed both of his opponents at 133 against SUNY Cortland and Waynesburg including a 17-4 major decision against Benjarmin Lloyd. Nicholas Barbaria (Scarsdale, N.Y.) pinned Kenny Daniels of SUNY Cortland at 125 while Nick Wagner (Wall, N.J.) picked up his first win of the day via a pin over Anthony Mastrangelo of Waynesburg.
 
In the opening round of the championship bracket, Roger Williams faltered against The College of New Jersey by a 19-26 score. Cochran and Brett Leonard (New Milford, Conn. both shut out their opponents, with Cochran downing Eric Friedman 8-0 at 149 and Leonard downing Thom Anderson 3-0 at 184.
 
In the third-place match, York College of Pennsylvania set down the Hawks 17-21. Barbaria collected his fourth win of the day, downing Dylan Nuttall 14-4 at 125. Gazaway downed Eric Hutchinson via pin at 157 and Haviland put away Zachary Dwyer 9-1 at 133.
