Field Hockey Takes CCC Win Over Nichols

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Field Hockey Team dominated Nichols College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game this Friday, winning 6-1.

Both teams remained scoreless for the first 17 minutes of the game until Brooklyn Cenatiempo (Trumbull, Conn.) took an assist from Callie Chase (Contoocook, N.H.) to put the Hawks on the board first. Four minutes later, Cenatiempo scored again for RWU off a pass from Hannah Palmer (Essex Junction, Vt.) to bring the Hawks lead to 2-0.

Cenatiempo continued to dominate the game, scoring again off an assist from Hannah Gaffney (Bolton, Mass.) to put RWU up 3-0 with eight minutes left in the first half. Nichols couldn't seem to put a stop on Cenatiempo who scored again three minutes later with Lea Peterson (Upton, Mass.) assisting Cenatiempo. The first half ended at 4-0 with RWU in the lead.

Cenatiempo's four goals put her at 13 goals this season, five of them scored against the Bisons. That set a new single-season record for RWU.

Less than five minutes into the second half, Taylor Powell (Windham, N.H.) scored an unassisted goal for the Hawks bringing their lead to 5-0. In the 45th minute, Callie Flanagan (Wenham, Mass.) saved a penalty shot from Erin Kelley (Dighton, Mass.) to keep Nichols off the board.

A minute later, Lizz McKinnon (Quincy, Mass.) found the back of the net with an unassisted goal to get the Bison on the board, 1-5. Brooke Misbach (Guilford, Conn.) stayed busy in goal saving eight shots from RWU in the next 21 minutes of the game.

With less than five minutes left, Sophia Hess (Leominster, Mass.) had the last goal of the game off a pass from Bridget Gardiner (Belmont, Mass.) to score her first goal of the year. The final score was 6-1 with RWU taking the win.

Flanagan had four saves for RWU. Misbach had 18 saves for Nichols.

Roger Williams University (7-9, 4-6 CCC) will be hosting Salve Regina this Wednesday. Nichols College (7-8, 3-7 CCC) will be traveling to Framingham State this Monday.
