Field Hockey Falls On Senior Day

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team fell to Gordon College Friday evening losing 0-3 in the team's last game of the regular season.

The two Roger Williams seniors, Callie Chase (Contoocook, N.H.) and Taylor Powell (Windham, N.H.), were honored prior to the game for their contributions to the RWU Field Hockey program.

A close shot from Hannah Palmer (Essex Junction, Vt.) in the seventh minute almost put the Hawks on the board first, but both teams remained scoreless. Ten minutes later, Sabrina Jandreau (Winslow, Maine) took a corner followed by a shot from Kieran Thompson (Berwyn, Pa.) for the Fighting Scots, but Thompson could find the back of the net.

After four consecutive shots from Gordon, Rosalind Keeley (Winterport, Maine) scored the Fighting Scots' first goal to give them the lead with less than seven minutes left in the first half. The half ended with Gordon up 1-0.

The Hawks played strong defense to keep the Lions out of the goal after a penalty corner from Jandreau in the 47th minute. However, six minutes later, Jandreau scored a goal taking an assist from Thompson to bring Gordon's lead to 2-0.

With less than seven minutes left in the second half, Jandreau scored another goal taking a pass from Mackenzie Gray (Carver, Mass.) to put the Fighting Scots up by three. The Hawks did not get another shot on goal and the second half ended with Gordon taking the win, 3-0.

Callie Flanagan (Wenham, Mass.) had three saves for RWU. Briana Kowolenko (Brooklyn, Conn.) had three saves for Gordon.

Roger Williams (7-11, 4-8 CCC) will enter the CCC Tournament as the #5 seed beginning on Tuesday, October 30. Gordon ends the season at 6-14 overall and 2-10 in the CCC.
