SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 28, 2018) – The fourth-seeded Western New England University men's soccer team fell to fifth-seeded Roger Williams University, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament at Suprenant Field.

With the win, Roger Williams (15-4) advances to the CCC semifinals on Wednesday at top-seeded Endicott. Western New England finishes the 2018 campaign with a record of 11-7-2.

Top Performers
Roger Williams sophomore forward Jacob Grant (Flemington, N.J.) scored the game-winning goal for the Hawks early in the second half, while junior goalkeeper Edmund Geschickter (Brookline, Mass.) posted a two-save shutout.

Western New England's only two shots on goal came from juniors Corey Brown (Somers, Conn.) and Dante Cancellaro (Watertown, Conn.).

Game Review
Following a scoreless first half that featured just one shot on frame, the Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute.

After a Roger Williams corner kick, the Western New England defense attempted to clear the ball out of the box, but it ended up at the feet of sophomore Connor Edwards (Deerfield, Mass.). Edwards sent a pass into the box to Grant, who turned around, found space and fired a shot into the back of the net past Western New England senior goalkeeper Sam Brewer (Westford, Mass.).

The Golden Bears applied offensive pressure for the remainder of the half and had a few solid scoring chances, but Roger Williams was able to hold onto its lead and escape with the win.
