BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer Team shut out Bridgewater State this Wednesday 2-0.
Both teams remained scoreless 19 minutes into the game with shots from
Jack Wetzel (Northport, N.Y.) for the Hawks and Justin Borges (Milford, Mass) for the Bears. In the 25th minute, a close shot from Joseph Cruise (Brockton, Mass.) was blocked by
James Lee (Sudbury, Mass.) for RWU.
With 12:15 left in the first half, Stahi Panagiotidis (Norwalk, Conn.) scored for the Hawks with a double assist from
Ryan Miller (Hillsdale, N.J.) and
Jake Fitting (Bristol, R.I.) putting RWU in the lead at 1-0. Despite three shots from Bridgewater, the Hawks shut the team out the rest of the half.
The second half started with multiple shots from the Hawks, but the combined play of the Bears' goalie Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) and its defense kept RWU out. The score remained 1-0 in the 60th minute despite a header shot from Garret Bolton (Candia, N.H.) for the Hawks.
With just over 21 minutes left in the game,
Steven Karp (Morganville, N.J.) scored for RWU taking an assist from
Jake Fitting putting the Hawks up 2-0. Despite a shot from Zachary Ells (Douglas, Mass.) for Bridgewater,
James Lee (Sudbury, Mass.) made a save to sustain the lead.
In the 78th minute, Lee saved a line drive to the left bottom corner from Kane Moran (Perth, Australia). The score remained 2-0 by the end of the second half, with the Hawks remaining undefeated.
James Lee had eight saves for RWU. Nate Morgado had four saves for Bridgewater.
Roger Williams University (12-0-0) will travel to Endicott this Saturday. Bridgewater State (5-5) will travel to Worcester State this Friday.
