BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Women's Field Hockey team lost to Lasell College 4-3 in double overtime Thursday evening.
Less than four minutes into the game, both
Sydney McCarthy (Little Falls, N.Y.) for the Hawks and Sam Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) for the Lasers had shots on goal that just went wide.
In the ninth minute,
Hannah Palmer (Essex Junction, Vt.) scored her third goal of the season, putting the Hawks in the lead at 1-0. Three minutes later, Lasell fired back with a goal from Taylor to tie the game 1-1 with 22 minutes left in the first half.
Taking an assist from
Anna Vasaturo (Pittsford, N.Y.) in the 18th minute, McCarthy scored a goal for the Hawks putting them in the lead once again at 2-1. Despite being outshot by ten, the Hawks stayed in the lead going into the second half.
Caitlin Flannery (Medford, N.J.) scored an unassisted goal for the Lasers 12 minutes into the second half, tying the game 2-2. Five minutes later, Megan Horrigan (Wakefield, Mass.) scored for Lasell to put them in the lead for the first time at 3-2.
With less than four minutes left,
Brooklyn Cenatiempo (Trumbull, Conn.) scored an unassisted goal for the Hawks tieing the game. With the score at 3-3 by the end of the second half, the game went into overtime.
Callie Flanagan (Wenham, Mass.) stayed busy at goal with seven shots from Lasell in overtime, five on goal. She made a great stick save in the 76
th minute to help preserve the lead. Neither team touched the back of the game as and the game went into double overtime.
With less than four minutes left in double overtime, Flannery took an assist from Taylor to give the Lasers the game.
Flanagan had a career-high 19 saves for RWU, while Sofia Rodriguez (Peabody, Mass.) had 11 saves for Lasell.
Roger Williams (6-6) will travel to Endicott next Wednesday. Lasell (7-5) will travel to Anna Maria this Saturday.
