WENHAM, Mass.—The Roger Williams Men's Soccer team fell short 1-0 to Gordon in the CCC Championship on a Saturday afternoon.
During regulation play, the Hawks and Scots battled to get shots on goal. However, the Scots took advantage of the wind in overtime and scored the winning goal with seven minutes left.
The goal came from a corner kick by Scots' Ian Burkhart (Lancaster, Pa.) and was declared a team goal due to a deflection off of one of RWUs' players.
Despite the loss, RWU had some great looks on net including
Ryan Miller (Hillsdale, N.J.),
Stathi Panagiotidis (Norwalk, Conn.), and
Tyler Andrade (S. Glastonbury, Conn.). The Hawks outshot the Scots 11 to three after three periods of the game.
The Hawks were defensively solid the entire game especially when the Scots best opportunity was awarded when Captain
David Majetich (Williamstown, Mass.) blocked a shot that was nearly in the net.
RWU goalkeeper
Edmund Geschickter (Brookline, Mass.) had one save while Scots' goalkeeper Wesley Sprague (Naperville, Ill.) recorded three.
That concludes the Conference Playoffs for the Hawks but they await to hear if they are seeded for the NCAA Tournament.
