Men’s Soccer Wins in Overtime Against MIT

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team won against the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Wednesday night with a final score of 1-0.

The game got off to a slow start staying mostly on the Hawk's side of the field with five shots within the first 15 minutes. Both RWU's strong defense and goalie, Edmund Geschickter (Brookline, Mass.), prevented the Engineers from scoring.

The Hawks did not get a shot on goal until the 19th minute by Jacob Grant (Flemington, N.J.), which was saved by Jeremy Cowham (Quincy, Mass.). Despite three corner kicks for each team, the defensive play on the field kept the ball out of both goals.

Neither team was able to score in the first half, with a score of 0-0 going into the second.

The second half started with two shots from Jacob Grant (Flemington, N.J.) for RWU within the first three minutes. At the 53rd minute, Wesley Woo (Palo Alto, Calif.) just missed the goal, hitting the crossbar and the Hawks sending it back up the field.

At the 66th minute, Isaac Perper (Tiburon, Calif.) shot at the top of the Hawks goal and Geschickter jumped to deflect the ball out and over the post. With another strong save 16 minutes later, Geschickter dove to save a goal shot by Loukas Carayannopoulos (Westfield, N.J.).

In a corner kick by Jordan Lach (Norton, Mass.) for RWU at the 89th minute, David Majetich (Williamstown, Mass.) just missed a header shot going over the top post. The score remained 0-0 by the end of the second half, causing the game to go into overtime.

In overtime, at the 96th minute, Colby Decker (Colchester, Conn.) crossed the ball to teammate Nicholas Sanchez (Franklin, Mass.) who then aimed for the bottom right corner of the net and won the game for the Hawks.

Geschickter had 6 saves for RWU and Cowham had 4 saves for MIT.
