Field Hockey Falls to Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.  -  The Western New England University field hockey team used a late goal to prevail 3-2 over Roger Williams University on Friday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Golden Bear Stadium.

Senior Lana Felice (Pawling, N.Y.), junior Jacqueline Clark (Auburn, Mass.) and freshman Taylor Klesyk (Hamden, Conn.)  all collected goals for the Golden Bears. Clark was able to bump her season total to seven goals with her game-winner in the final seconds. The junior also assisted on Felice's tally.

Senior Taylor Powell (Windham, N.H.) and freshman Taylor Woodbury (Hamilton, Mass.) both found the back of the cage for the Hawks.

Nine minutes into play, Roger Williams struck first off the stick of Woodbury to make the score 1-0. Western New England stayed aggressive through the half looking for the equalizer, which came at the 19:50 mark when Clark found Felice to tie the game for the Golden Bears.

In the second half, Powell capitalized off a dish from junior Anna Vasaturo (Pittsford, N.Y.) allowing Roger Williams to regain the lead, 2-1. Twelve minutes later, Klesyk sparked Western New England's comeback when she scored after collecting the rebound on a shot that Felice fired off the post to tie the contest.

With just 55 seconds remaining, Clark received a feed from junior Jessica Clifford (Auburn, Mass.) and punched it in to put the Golden Bears ahead 3-2 and eventually seal the victory.

Roger Williams travels to Salve Regina next Wednesday while Western New England plays against Smith on Tuesday.
