Nichols Claims Victory Against Women's Tennis

DUDLEY, Mass.—The Roger Williams Women's Tennis team fell to Nichols College 8-1 on a Monday afternoon.

In doubles play, RWU's No. 1 Heidi Martin (Scituate, Mass.) / Jessica Magliato (New Rochelle, N.Y) were defeated by Isabelle Leonardi (North Hampton, N.H.) / Amarie Settiwongse (Bangok, Thailand) 3-8.
The No. 2 doubles Taryn Roche (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and Riley Spillane (Easton, Mass.) faced the Bison's Megan Nathanson (Scarborough, Maine)/Rachel McDonald (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) but the result ended in an 8-3 win for the Nichols duo.
The last double match ended in an 8-2 triumph for Bison's Lindsey Kaplan (Boca Raton, Fla.) / Juliana Herrera (Villavicencio, Colombia) versus Morgan Crimmins (Boston, Mass.) and Libby Bennett (Watertown, Conn.).

In singles play, Hawk's Magliato defeated Leonardi after an exciting three sets 4-6, 6-4, and 10-6.
The Bisons won the rest of the five singles matches to put the team at a 7-0 record overall. Nichols Settiwongse was victorious against RWU's Martin 6-0, 6-1 as well as Alana Judd (Westborough, Mass.) against Roche 6-3, 6-2.Roger William's Spillane faced Kara Stankewitz (Cologne, Germany) that ended with a 4-6, 4-6 loss while Hawk's Crimmins took on Nathanson as the No. 5 singles matchup that resulted in a Bison's victory 6-1, 6-2.
The number six matchup between Hawk's Tanya Gianitsos (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and Nichol's Herrera concluded as a win for Nichols with a score of 6-4, 6-2.

The Hawks are now 4-3 overall and 2-2 in conference while the Bisons are 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.

Next up for the Hawks is Curry at home on September 26th at 4:00 p.m. and the Bison's match up against Salve Regina on the 26th as well in Newport, R.I. at 3:30 p.m.
