WENHAM, Mass. - The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team lost a close 91-94 overtime matchup to Gordon College Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.
The Hawks held a 37-28 halftime lead against the Fighting Scots thanks to a strong shooting performance in which Roger Williams shot 55.2 percent from the field. RWU led by as many as 16 in the opening half before Gordon pulled within nine to close out the period.
A 10-4 run to open the second half helped Gordon erased the deficit to only three. However, Roger Williams managed to build the lead back to ten with 15:03 left in the game. The Hawks looked poised to win as they led by as many as 11 with just over three minutes left. However, Gordon held RWU scoreless over the rest of the half, tying the game at 73 apiece with a three-pointer with 16 seconds left to help put the game into overtime.
In overtime, RWU held a five-point lead with three minutes left. Yet Gordon finished the game on a 15-7 to come away with the win.
Austin Coene (Tyngsborough, Mass.) led Roger Williams will 34 points to go along with nine rebounds and seven rebounds.
Rich Pugliese (Middlebury, Conn.) added 18 points and a steal with
JJ Pfohl (Trumbull, Conn.) going for 12 points and six assists.
