Widener Best Men’s Lacrosse

CHESTER, Pa. – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team succumbed to Widener University in a 13-8 loss to the Pride Saturday afternoon.
 
Connor Heisman began things with a goal three minutes into the game for Widener. Chris Bova (Ridgefield, Conn.) tied things up with a score at the 9:46 mark. Heisman would respond with a goal for Widener on the ensuing possession. He would then score twice more as part of a 4-0 run to end the quarter 5-1 in the Pride's favor.
 
Ryan Phillips (Hanover, Mass.) notched a man-up goal for the Hawks to begin the second quarter. However, Widener scored four unanswered goals to end the half holding on to a commanding 10-2 lead.
 
The Pride tacked on two more goals to begin the third quarter before Peter Navarro (Londonderry, N.H.), Andrew Gaffney (Cherry Valley, Mass.), and Tim Mullane (Hanover, Mass.) helped bring the Hawks within six with under five minutes left. Both teams would split goals to keep it a six-goal lead for the Pride entering the fourth quarter (6-12).
 
In the fourth, the Hawks managed to score twice on goals by Bova and Jared Grier (Quincy, Mass.) but could not overcome the deficit as Widener won by five.
 
Bova and Phillips each scored twice with Bova adding four ground balls. Drew Mullin (Ridgefield, Conn.) finished with three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Weston Nolan (Falmouth, Maine) made 14 saves for the Hawks in the loss.
 
Roger Williams (3-2) heads to Trinity College on Monday for a 5:30pm matchup.
