Baseball Falls Short to Trinity

LEXINGTON, S.C.—The Roger Williams Baseball team lost 3-17 against Trinity College on Friday morning on their last day of spring break.

In the top of the first, the Hawks came out strong with Ben Bonavita (East Longmeadow, Mass.) flying out to center field scoring Joey Gulino (Meriden, Conn.) who got on from a walk and then sold second. Eli Camner (Hamden, Conn.) then hit a RBI single to score Chris Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) for an early 2-0 lead.

However, Trinity came back in the bottom of the first with three runs to put them ahead one. They tacked on one more run in the second to bring the score to 4-2.

The Hawks responded with an RBI single from Tommy Hobin (Madison, Conn.) to bring in Bonavita to go up one.

It was the bottom of the third that Trinity added eight more runs from a three run homer by Tyler Buckley (Mount Kisco, N.Y.), a double, two singles, and a couple of walks from Hawks' pitcher Anthony Sapienza (North Andover, Mass.).

The 8-3 lead turned into a 9-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth when Vincent Capone (Ambler, Pa.) hit a solo home run.

From the seventh inning on, Trinity scored four more runs to complete the game at 3-17.

The Hawks (3-6) will move on to play UMass-Boston (4-4) at 6:00 p.m. on March 19th.
