BRISTOL, R.I.—The Roger Williams Women's Tennis team lost 4-5 to Regis College on a Friday afternoon.
It was looking good for the Hawks during doubles play when No. 2's
Morgan Crimmins (Boston, Mass.) /
Libby Bennett (Watertown, Conn.) defeated opponents Ginger Boodakian (Burlington, Mass.) / Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) 8-3. No. 3's
Tanya Gianitsos (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and
Alexa DiCesare (Norwood, Mass.) also were victorious against Oriana Attridge (Westwood, Mass.) / Kaeleigh FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) in a close match 8-6.
With the 2-0 lead going into singles play, Regis came back and won the first three matches. Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) beat
Heidi Martin (Scituate, Mass.) 6-4, 6-0, Katasha
Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) overcame
Riley Spillane (Easton, Mass.) 7-6, 6-4, and Mogelnicki defeated Crimmins 6-3, 6-0.
As Regis took the 3-2 lead, Hawks's Gianitsos won her match against Boodakian 6-1, 6-3 to tie the match at 3's.
Bennett took a tough loss to FitzPatrick in three rounds 1-6, 6-3, 10-6 but
Shannon DeChiara (Chelmsford, Mass.) won in the number six spot against Kaitlyn Colby (Merrimac, Mass.) 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.
Unfortunately the Hawks only lost by one to end their season but look forward to continue to train for the 2019-20 season.
