Softball Falls to Endicott in Doublheader

BRISTOL, R.I.—The Roger Williams Softball team lost two to Endicott College 1-9 and 0-5 on a Sunday afternoon.

In game one, Alyssa Murray (Green Brook, N.J.) started off on the mound for the Hawks until Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) came in for relief.

In the top of the second, the Gulls came out firing earning five runs from three doubles and three singles to take the early lead 5-0.

In the bottom of the third, Elizabeth Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) doubled down the left field line advancing Katrina Goria (Wyckoff, N.J.) to third who got on from a hit by pitch by Endicott pitcher Maggie Oram (Lexington, Mass). Sydney Provencal (Cumberland, R.I.) reached first base on an error by the shortstop in order to score the first and only run of the game.

The Gulls tacked on four more runs in the remaining innings to create the final score of 9-1.

Tara Chatowsky (North Kingstown, R.I.), Rachel Wandzilak (West Islip, N.Y.), and Alexis Romano ( Shirley, N.Y.) each chipped in with a hit for the Hawks.

In game two, Lia Nocella (Tyngsboro, Mass.) got the loss although earning six strikeouts and only allowing two walks and five hits.

In the top of the third, due to an illegal pitch call, Nocella walked in a run. Shortly after, Lauren Misiaszek (Londonderry, N.H.) hit a 3 RBI double down the right field line to take the lead 4-0.

In the top of the sixth, Misiaszek struck again singling to left field to lead the inning off for the Gulls. Hailey Arudini (Southington, Conn.) laid down a sacrifice bunt to move her teammate over to second until Hannah Llewellyn (Danvers, Mass.) singled to center earning their last run of the game to put the score at 5-0.

The Hawks tried to come back in later innings but could not execute as they came to their second loss of the evening.

RWU (12-16) will be back at it on Thursday April 18th for another conference doubleheader against Salve Regina University (17-14) at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
