Baseball Sweeps Endicott in Doubleheader

WEYMOUTH, Mass.—The Roger Williams Baseball team won two games to Endicott College 3-2 and 8-1 on a Friday afternoon at Weymouth High School.

Game one was a nail biter early on starting when the Gulls hit a homerun in the top of the second to take the 1-0 lead.

However, the Hawks answered when Danny Roth (West Hartford, Conn.) hit a single to get the inning started. Anthony Dominguez (Chester, N.J.) laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Roth for the first out, which put up Tommy Hobin (Madison, Conn.) who hit an RBI single to tie the game 1-1.

In the top of the third, Endicott added a run from Jordan Carvalho's (Rehoboth, Mass.) RBI single to put them ahead 2-1.

The Hawks came back once again in that same inning when Chris Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) bunted for a hit with two outs to put a runner on first for Elijah Camner (Hamden, Conn.) to come up and smack a two run homer to take the lead 3-2.

The score remained the same after four more innings due to both teams not being able to do anymore damage offensively.

Hawk's pitcher Connor Hewlette (Deer Park, N.Y.) received the win while relief pitcher Craig Demers (Acushnet, Mass.) recorded the save.

In game two, Justin Garcia (Foxborough, Mass.) started off on the mound for the Hawks striking out nine Gulls.

Not only was the pitching on point, but the bats were key in RWU earning the second win of the day. In the bottom of the fourth, Justin Stone (Blackstone, Mass.) and Roth both hit solo homeruns to put the score at 2-0.

Later in the fifth, Bosco hit a 2 RBI double and Camner hit a 2 RBI single to give the Hawks a comfortable lead at 6-0.

Endicott received a run when Dan Cacciola (Saugus, Mass.) stole home to give the Gulls their only run of the game.

The Hawks didn't stop at that either. In the sixth, Joey Gulino (Meriden, Conn.) hit a single to bring in teammates Brandon Jenkins (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and Hobin for a lasting 8-1 score.

RWU (14-16-1) will face conference member Wentworth Institute of Technology (8-19) on April 27th at home for the Law Enforcement Appreciation Game at 12:00p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
