BUZZARDS BAY, Mass.—The Roger Williams Baseball team won 13-5 against Mass.-Maritime in their last regular season game on a Tuesday afternoon.
RWU earned a run early in the top of the first when
Danny Roth (West Hartford, Conn.) reached on a fielder's choice and
Justin Stone (Blackstone, Mass.) scored due to a throwing error by the third baseman.
With
Anthony Sapienza (North Andover, Mass.) on the mound to start the game, the Hawks had a one, two, three inning with two strikeouts and a ground out.
The Hawks attacked again in the second with two outs when Stone hit an RBI single to plate
George Somers (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.). Elijah Camner (Hamden, Conn.) reached on a fielder's choice as
Chris Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) and Stone were brought home due to a fielding error.
Anthony Dominguez (Chester, N.J.) then singled to right field to bring home Camner for a 5-0 lead.
Mass.-Maritime cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second from an RBI triple and a ground out that brought in a run.
RWU struck again in the fourth Camner hit a 2 RBI double to right center followed by a double from Roth to bring in another run. Dominguez and Somers both his RBI singles to allow two more runs to come in putting the scoreboard at 10-2.
The Buccaneers added one in the fourth as well from Dylan Sullo's (Acushnet, Mass) RBI single to right field but not enough to be a threat to the Hawks.
An error by the catcher in the fifth caused RWU to tack on another to give the Buccaneers a six run deficit.
In the bottom of the seventh, Joe Sanchez (Dracut, Mass) from Mass.-Maritime hit an RBI double followed by a sacrifice fly from Marley Dembitzki (North Dartmouth, Mass.)
to put the score at 11-5.
The Hawks received their last two runs in the top of the eighth when Somers reached on an error that scored
Ben Bonavita (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Dominguez.
Dominguez went 3 for 6,
Tyler Brett (Hebron, Conn.) was 2 for 3, and Somers hit 2 for 5.
Joey Gulino (Meriden, Conn.) also helped out with a hit as well.
Sapienza recorded the win striking out five and only allowing three hits in six innings.
That concludes the Hawk's (17-17-1) regular season as they move on to the CCC Tournament on Friday as the two seed.
