Men’s Lacrosse Falls In CCC Semis In Triple OT

BEVERLY, Mass. — The third-seeded Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team suffered a hard-fought 11-12 setback to second-seeded Endicott College Tuesday in triple overtime.

The Hawks managed to grab a 3-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the first quarter, with Gabe Reale (Fairfield, Conn.), Chris Bova (Ridgefield, Conn.), and Jared Grier (Quincy, Mass.) all scoring for RWU. Unfortunately for RWU, those would be the only goals for the team for the rest of the half.

An Endicott goal at the 3:46 mark of the first by Jack Sutherland pulled the Gulls within two. Then in the second quarter, Endicott outscored Roger Williams 6-0 in the period, including four goals by Mike Sudora. The Gulls would take a 7-3 halftime lead.

Roger Williams would come out with a pair of goals by Bova and Abdullah Nassif (Hanover, Mass.) in the third quarter. The Hawk defense would also keep the Gulls scoreless in the third as Roger Williams trailed by two going into the fourth.

Jude Marzec (West Islip, N.Y.) brought RWU within one with a goal on the opening faceoff of the fourth quarter. The two sides traded goals then the Gulls notched two goals with just under three minutes remaining for a three-goal lead.

It appeared that it would be too much for RWU to overcome, but the Hawks continued to fight. Pat Barboza (Stamford, Conn.) scored with 1:14 left followed by another Nassif goal with 40 seconds left along with an Endicott slashing penalty. Reale would complete the comeback with a man-up goal with seven seconds left to send the game into overtime.

The Hawks were outshot 7-1 over the first two OT periods as neither team could score. Endicott would ultimately clinch the game with a goal by Sudora with 40 seconds left.

Reale had six points on four goals and two assists, while Marzec and Grier each added a goal and two assists. Brian Brockwell (Duxbury, Mass.) added six ground balls and four caused turnovers. Weston Nolan (Falmouth, Maine) had 19 saves in the loss.

Roger Williams closes out the year at 12-7 overall.
