Baseball Takes Loss to Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I.—The Roger Williams Baseball team was defeated by Salve Regina University 5-10 in a single game this afternoon.

In the top of the fourth inning, Eli Camner (Hamden, Conn.) hit a solo homerun to put the Hawks ahead 1-0.

The Seahawks answered quickly in the same inning earning four runs from a double, three singles, and a sacrifice fly putting the score at 4-1.

In the fifth and sixth innings, Salve added two runs from a sacrifice fly from Tristian Dacey (Wyckoff, N.J.) and an RBI single from Dylan Ketch (Clinton, Conn.).

It was the seventh inning that the Hawks started to rally scoring four runs putting them within one (6-5). Ben Bonavita (East Longmeadow, Mass.) hit an RBI double to left center that plated third baseman Tyler Cedeno (Maynard, Mass.) who got on by a hit by pitch. Justin Stone (Blackstone, Mass.) was up next and singled to right center scoring Bonavita for the second run of the inning. With one man on, Chris Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) showed up and hit a two run homer to left center to add two to the scoreboard.

However, during the rest of the game, the Seahawks earned four more runs leaving the score at 10-5 to take the win.

Stone went 3 for 5 on the day and Bosco chipped in with two hits to try and help the Hawks make a comeback.

On the mound for RWU was Michael Farrell (Bellingham, Mass.) and in relief was Matt Vernacatola (Berlin, Conn.) who let up a total of 13 hits, two walks, and earned four strikeouts.

The Hawks (6-12-1) play back to back games heading to Western New England University (13-6) tomorrow for a double header at 12:00 and 3:00 p.m.
