BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams Baseball team lost twice to Salve Regina University 4-14 and 1-5 to lose the CCC Championship over the weekend.
The first game got off to a slow start. Neither team found home in the first four innings with Patrick Maybach (Saunderstown, R.I.) on the mound for the Seahawks and
Justin Garcia (Foxborough, Mass.) on the mound for the Hawks.
The Seahawks struck first scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth to give a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the sixth, both
Danny Roth (West Hartford, Conn.) and
Anthony Dominguez (Chester, N.J) walked to put men on first and second. With a single to left center from
Tommy Hobin (Madison, Conn.) Roth reached home to cut the Seahawks lead to two.
Joey Gulino (Meriden, Conn.) stole second followed by a single to left center from Elijah Camner (Hamden, Conn.) to bring Gulino home in the top of the seventh for RWU.
In the bottom of the inning, the Seahawks earned five runs to give them the 8-2 lead.
In the top of the eighth, the Hawks were on the verge of a comeback scoring two runs off of an error and off of a double play to cut the lead in half.
However, Salve answered in the bottom of the inning when they earned six more runs to keep the final score at 14-4.
In game two,
Anthony Sapienza (North Andover, Mass.) started off on the mound for the Hawks as well as Michael Matthews (West Hartford, Conn.) for the Seahawks.
Nobody scored until the top of the fifth when Salve's Colton Eremian (Boca Raton, Fla.) hit an RBI single to bring teammate Anthony Cieszko (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) home for a 1-0 lead.
The Hawks came back right away with a run to tie the game after Camner hit an RBI single to right field.
In the top of the sixth, the Seahawks added three runs to the scoreboard from a two RBI double and a sacrifice fly to go ahead 4-1. In the top of the seventh, they scored once more when pitcher
Michael Farrell (Bellingham, Mass.) walked in a run.
Both teams didn't score for the rest of the game and the Seahawks took the CCC Championship 5-1 and will be moving on to the NCAA Tournament.
That concludes the 2019 season for the Hawks who will get after it in their off season to get ready for another year.
