How It Happened
Roger Williams surged to an early lead that Manhattanville was unable to overcome. The Hawks put up five goals in the first quarter while holding the Valiants scoreless for a commanding lead. Then in the second quarter, RWU tacked on three more goals in the first four minutes of play for an 8-0 lead.
In that 8-0 run
Tim Mullane scored three times, with
Jared Grier, and
Ryan Phillips (Hanover, Mass.) each adding two goals apiece and one for
Jude Marzec (West Islip, N.Y.) to help push the Hawks to the lead.
Nick Delia would end the RWU run with a goal for Manhattanville with 7:43 left in the first half. The Valiants would add two more goals over the final five minutes to make it a 3-8 game going into the break.
In the third quarter, the offense for both teams went to work, as the two sides combined for seven goals in the period. Manhattanville tallied three goals in the frame while Roger Williams put up four scores. RWU would hold a 12-6 advantage going into the fourth quarter.
Manhattanville would not go away quietly, as Will Duval and Stephen Magarelli combined for three goals over a five-minute stretch to pull within three with 3:10 left in the game. However a goal by
Andrew Gaffney with two minutes left help extend the Hawk lead and push RWU to the win.
