How It Happened
Roger Williams got the lone score of the contest in the 27
th minute. As Gordon attempted to clear, RWU generated a turnover and after some crisp passing,
Javi Beltran (Madrid, Spain) got the ball near the top left corner of the 18-yard box and the goalie, Brody Veleber (Coatesville, Pa.) came out to try and make a play. Beltran then chipped a pass across to
Jack Wetzel (Northport, N.Y.) straight away and with Veleber now caught in between, Wetzel had a wide-open net and he rocketed a shot into the middle of the goal for his fifth score of the fall.
It was the defenses that dominated the first half, during which the squads managed just four shots combined, two for each side. The Hawks converted their lone shot on goal in the half for the lone tally while Gordon fired two shots on frame but could not find the back of the net. Finally, the Fighting Scots also received the only corner kick of the stanza.
The second half was full of more strong defense. Roger Williams only managed one shot in the half, and it was not on goal. The Fighting Scots on the other hand fired five in the half, two of them on frame but
Jack Avellar (Orleans, Mass.) was up to the task stopping them both.
Overall, Gordon had more shots, 7-3, shots on goal, 4-1, and corner kicks, 2-1 but in the end, it was RWU who capitalized on their chance to grab the 1-0 win in their final road game of the regular season.
