Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team stayed hot sweeping Western New England, 9-0 on Tuesday evening. It was the fourth consecutive shutout victory for the Hawks and their seventh overall this fall.
 
With the victory, RWU improves to 9-1 on the season including 4-1 against Commonwealth Coast Conference competition. The Golden Bears, on the other hand, fall to 1-4, with all their contests coming against CCC foes.


Hawk Highlights
Roger Williams shook up their lineups in this contest but nonetheless took all three matches in dominant fashion. In the top flight of singles, Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) and Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) breezed past Aliza McLeish (Chicopee, Mass.) and Kaylin Gibbons (Berkley, Mass.), 8-1. Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and Alexa DiCesare (Norwood, Mass.) took care of Hailey MacDonald (West Springfield, Mass.) and Jennifer Arling (Cromwell, Conn.), 8-3 in doubles #2. In doubles #3, Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) and Kate Hardy (Southington, Conn.) handled Michelle McDermott (East Hampton, Conn.) and Eiren Klesczewski (Suffield, Conn.), 8-2.
 
RWU continued to roll through the Golden Bears in singles play. The #1 singles matchup was the closest showdown of the day, but Cahoon held off McLeish, 6-1, 7-5. In #2 singles Ferraro easily beat Klesczewski, 6-0, 6-1. WNE went with fresh legs in Sydney Lewis (Goffstown, N.H.) in singles #3, but she fell to DiCesare, 6-1, 6-2. In the #4 flight, McCarthy blanked Arling, 6-0, 6-0. Santoro dispatched of McDermott, 6-0, 6-1 in singles #5. Then, to wrap up the box score, Tanya Gianitsos (Old Saybrook, Conn.) beat Gibbons, 8-3.
