How It Happened
Jarron Flynn (Roslindale, Mass.) knocked down a jumper for Connecticut College to begin the game. From there, both teams would trade baskets over the next three minutes.
Mac Annus (Belmont, Mass.) used a three-pointer to give RWU a 7-6 lead. His shot would help spark an 11-2 run to turn a two-point deficit into a seven-point lead (15-8). The Camels would climb their way back in, with a trey by Cam Schainfeld (Newton, Mass.) putting them back on top 18-17 with eight minutes left in the half.
A three by
Nate Lopes (Scituate, Mass.) with four and a half remaining regained the lead for RWU 22-21. From there, the Hawks would maintain the advantage for the rest of the half, going up by as many as eight but taking a 33-29 lead into halftime.
Connecticut College knotted the contest at 35 early on in the second half. However, Roger Williams utilized a 12-5 run to bring their advantage back up to seven. A layup by Annus would later give RWU a 58-43 lead with 8:58 to play, their largest of the game.
The Hawks looked to be cruising towards a win by Connecticut College made one last push in the final minute, using a full court press to pull within five in the final minute. The Camels' Billy Whelan (Hamilton, Mass.) made a steal to gain possession for Connecticut College and potentially make it a one possession game with 40 seconds to play. Yet a heads up play by
Charles Mukweva (Harare, Zimbabwe) allowed him to take the ball away from Whelan and convert a layup of his own, making it a seven-point lead with 25 seconds left. That would not be enough to for Conn to complete the comeback as RWU held on for the win.
