Men’s Lacrosse Victorious In First Game Of The Year

BRISTOL, R.I. –The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team returned to action in their first game action since the shutdown in March 2020. The Hawks came away victorious with a 13-9 victory over New England College Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
The opening quarter was a scoreless affair for the first ten minutes until Connor Moriarty (Wilbraham, Mass.) posted the first score of the game with 4:27 left. Jared Grier (Quincy, Mass.) added another score to make it a 2-0 Hawk lead.
 
Moriarty and Mike Bruno (Clark, N.J.) posted two more scores early in the second before Lucas Ferreira (Brampton Ontario, Calif.) got NEC on the board. One more Hawk tally with 2:28 left in the half gave RWU a 5-1 lead entering the break.
 
The Pilgrims logged two goals within the first three minutes of the half to pull within two. However, Roger Williams would build the lead to four (8-4) with five minutes left in the third period. New England College scored two more times in the period including a full-field launch by Benjamin with 0.5 seconds left to make it a two-score game.
 
Roger Williams managed to pull away halfway through the fourth, using three consecutive goals over a two-minute stretch to turn a 9-7 lead into a 12-7 advantage. RWU would lead the rest of the way to earn the win.
