How It Happened
Suffolk scored first to give them the early 1-0 lead in inning one of game two. The second was a big inning for the Hawks as Cioffi started it off with a single. Isabella Rosado (Central Islip, N.Y.) pinch ran for Cioffi and stole second causing an error and ended up scoring to tie the game 1-1. Singles from
Taylor Bigliani (Saint James, N.Y.), Peters and Ruo and a fielder's choice by
Alex Burdick (Jewett City, Conn.) helped RWU bring home two to go ahead 3-1. Suffolk added one in the third from Cockroft's double to right field but Cioffi hit a double of her own to plate Jax Beaulieau (Sandwich, Mass.) in the fifth. With a 4-2 lead, the Rams responded with a run but couldn't tie the game as the Hawks secured the 4-3 win.
Ellie Fleming recorded the win only letting up seven hits, two earned runs, and one walk.
Coaches Corner
"Game one we came out flat and Suffolk dominated on offense and defense. Game two was a really good game and
Ellie Fleming and
Francesca Cioffi worked well together and got a solid defensive effort - with
Michaela Federico coming up big with gunning out a runner at first base and made the catch of the game in the bottom of the seventh to spark the team. Francesca hit the ball well and freshman
Kasey Ruo collected a clutch RBI hit early. It was a nice bounce back win and a total team effort."-
Joyce Maudie
Players Corner
"Today we battled through the first game and our energy really came alive in the second game! Our bats and defense came in perfect timing and so many people did their jobs on and off the field!"-
Michaela Federico
