Men’s Lacrosse Claims CCC Tournament Bid With Win Over Curry

MILTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team earned its way to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament with a thrilling 8-7 win over Curry College Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
Both teams got off to a hot start scoring the ball in the first quarter. Tim Mullane logged the first goal of the game two minutes in for Roger Williams. Curry's Samuel Nielsen would follow up with a goal three minutes later as part of a 3-0 Colonel run. Matt Halpin scored a man-up goal to halt the run, but Curry would score two more times in the first quarter for a 5-2 lead.
 
In the second quarter, the Hawk defense was able to hold Curry in check in the period. RWU limited the Colonels to only seven shots in the frame, none of which found the back of the net. For the Hawks, they would score three times in the period to tie the game at five apiece entering halftime.
 
In the third, Curry's Albie DiBella and Andrew DeLeary scored for the Colonels in the first five minutes to regain the lead. Halpin added a score for RWU, but the Hawks would trailin 6-7 entering the fourth.
 
In the final period, Peter Navarro (Londonderry, N.H.) scored the game-tying goal with 9:44 to play in the game. then with 8:38 to play, Jared Grier would log the eventual game-winning goal for the Hawks. A pair of saves over the final eight minutes helped push RWU to the win and the tournament berth.
