How It Happened
The early part of the first quarter saw both sides jockeying for a scoring opportunity. Eastern Conn. St. came close seven minutes into the contest. Liz LaMarco (West Hartford, Conn.) poked a shot from the left side that got past Callie Flanagan (Wenham, Mass.) who was coming out to try to deny the opportunity. Fortunately for RWU, Erin Magsamen (Bridgewater, N.J.) was residing in front of the goal and managed to knock the shot away to keep the Warriors off the board.

Eastern Conn. St. had another chance to score with just under two minutes left in the quarter, with Bryce Makula (Guilford, Conn.) firing a shot from the left. A strong kick save by Flanagan stopped the Warrior chance, keeping the game scoreless.

Amelia Monahan (Bristol, N.H.) almost logged the first goal of the game six minutes into the second quarter, taking a pass from Hannah Gaffney (Bolton, Mass.) on the right of the goal. She got a stick on the ball, but was denied by Warrior keeper Sarah Gallagher (South Windsor, Conn.). Neither side was able to find the back of the goal in the quarter, sending the game into halftime scoreless.

The breakthrough goal came in the final minute of the third quarter, with LaMarco securing a loose ball on the right side of the arc and backhanding a strong shot over the Hawk defense and into the left corner for a 1-0 Warrior lead.

The Warrior defense held Roger Williams in check for most of the beginning of the fourth quarter, allowing only one shot in the first 10 minutes. The Hawks had a good look at a potential scoring opportunity with seven minutes remaining, with Monahan sending a cross in front of the goal and behind the Warrior keeper. Unfortunately for RWU, no one was waiting for the pass as the ball rolled away harmlessly.

The Hawks' final chance to tie the game came in the final minute on a cross from Gaffney to Monahan in the middle of the arc, who would have had a one-on-one opportunity with a Warrior defender. Yet, she was unable to control the pass, which allowed ECSU to clear the ball and let the clock wind down for the win.
