Field Hockey: Hawks Clinch Home Rematch with Salve Regina with Win on Senior Day

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team clinched a home CCC Tournament matchup, defeating Salve Regina on Friday at Bayside Field, 3-0, on Senior Day.

The Hawks celebrated six members of the field hockey team in a pregame ceremony.  Carolyn Bauman (Westbrook, Conn.), Renee Gonthier (East Kingston, N.H.), Morgan Foley (Hanover, Mass.), and Helena Mott (Miller Place, N.Y.) were the seniors recognized along with graduate student Brooklyn Cenatiempo (Trumbull, Conn.) and student-assistant coach Rosie Ceisler.

The Hawks controlled play, outshooting the Seahawks by 30, while putting 25 shots on net. Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Brazil (East Sandwich, Mass.) kept a blank sheet in the contest, as the Hawks posted their seventh shutout of the season.

After an opening 10 minutes of play scoreless, the Hawks earned a penalty corner in the 11th minute of play, which Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) put onto the stick of Abigail Stevens (Brewster, Mass.), Stevens then stopped the ball and fired a shot past the Salve Regina goalkeeper, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the opening frame.

King then scored a goal of her own after a pass from Cenatiempo found it's way past the Seahawk defense for an opening in front of the net, that King then put away 6:53 into the second quarter.

In the second half, King scored her second goal of the day and fifth point of the match, after Hannah Timbrouck (Kingston, N.Y.) found her open for a goal on the left side of the net.

Roger Williams (11-7, 3-3 CCC) will host Salve Regina for the second time in as many contests with Bayside Field serving as the backdrop the second consecutive matchup on Tuesday, Nov. 1 in the CCC Quarterfinal.
