BOSTON, Mass. — The Roger William University men's basketball team were victorious over Suffolk on Tuesday evening, 87-76.
Will MacDonald (York, Maine) was the top scorer with 24 points.
John Ah Kao (Durmont, N.J.) made 15 points, had two rebounds, and three assists.
Philip Sughrue (Winchester, Mass.) also scored in double-digits and had four assists.
MacDonald opened up scoring for Roger Williams, making a layup, followed by a three-point shot moments later. Additional shots made by Sughrue, and
Sean Gogolin (Winchester, Mass.) put the Hawks ahead for the majority of the first half. With a little more than three minutes left in the period the Rams made a three-pointer, taking the lead. The half ended with the Hawks trailing, 39-37.
Kicking things off in the second half
, Mac Annus (Belmont, Mass.) made a layup to start things off. Another three-pointer made by MacDonald kept the score close as the Rams and Hawks went back and forth. Roger Williams fell behind Suffolk until MacDonald sank yet another three-point shot, knotting things up, 68-68. Ah Kao made a layup soon after that, propelling the Hawks forward. Sughrue rounded out scoring for the Hawks with a free throw. Roger Williams scored 50 points in the second half, outscoring Suffolk by 13.
The Hawks outdid the Rams in assists, 16-10, and steals, 14-5.
Roger Williams (5-2, 3-0 CCC) will host UMaine Presque Isle on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 1 p.m. They will then compete in the Springfield College invitational on Friday, Dec. 30.
