How It Happened
Roger Williams got off to a hot start, with
Eli Harris (Falmouth, Mass.) scoring seven points for the Hawks as part of an 11-2 run to kick off the contest. RWU led for much of the early part of the game. The Rams took their first lead halfway in, with Aidan Sullivan (Scituate, Mass.) knocking down a three with 9:50 to play in the half for an 18-16 advantage. However,
Will MacDonald (York, Maine) answered with a trey on the other end to put RWU back on top.
The game would be back and forth for the next six minutes until Cole LeVangie (Whitman, Mass.) hit a three to put Suffolk up 31-30 with just over three minutes left in the half. The Rams would hold on to the lead over the rest of the period, going into halftime up 38-33.
Back-to-back baskets by the Rams put them up by nine to begin the second half of play. The Hawks cut the deficit to two (42-44), but Suffolk quickly scored 12 points over the following three minutes to go up by 11 (56-45). The Rams extended their advantage to 18 with 8:33 left to play and appeared to be rolling to an easy win.
Roger Williams had other plans, utilizing a late rally to make it a 71-75 score with 1:31 left in the game. Unfortunately the Hawk offense went cold over the remainder of play, as RWU missed its last five shots, allowing Suffolk to hold on for the win.
