How It Happened
Less than three minutes into the contest, and RWU had notched the first goal of the game as
Pat Barboza (Stamford, Conn.) sent a rocket past Carter Randall (Sammamish, Wash.). Not long after, Matt Greer (South Windsor, Conn.) got the Golden Bears on the board. Ravas would then regain RWU's advantage before WNE once again responded, this time with Dylan Hanley (New Fairfield, Conn.) netting one for the hosts. Following Hanley's goal with 1:24 left, the Golden Bears would go on to score two more before the end of the first to put the Hawks into a 4-2 hole heading into the second.
The next two frames would see Western New England bring their goal total up to 11 as RWU struggled to get things going on both ends of the field. In the second, Brian Madden (Brookfield, Conn.) would tally the two points, and in the third, all five goals were scored by five different Golden Bears.
The fourth quarter would begin, and exactly 1:30 into the frame, a ninth different Golden Bear would put the ball in the back of the net. One minute later,
Ryan Phillips (Hanover, Mass.) would give the Hawks their first response since the first quarter, ending a streak of 11 unanswered WNE goals. The Golden Bears were not done, as they would add in two more goals before
Matt Halpin (Hanover, Mass.) scored the final goal, setting the final mark at 14-4.
