Softball’s Improbable Postseason Run Halted By Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. – After narrowly getting into the playoffs on the final day of the regular season, the eighth seeded Roger Williams University Softball team made some noise in Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament by eliminating Suffolk and Wentworth, but they saw their season conclude to the hands of Endicott College, 8-0, at the Endicott Softball Complex on Friday night.

The Hawks end their season at 12-30 but can at least take pride in ending the season on a high note. The Gulls, meanwhile, advance to the CCC Championship series where they will look to win their third-straight title.

How It Happened
Endicott set the tone right from the start in this contest, jumping on the board in the first. Keelin Spencer (San Jose, Calif.) leadoff with a single, though she was replaced on base by Katie Watts (Swampscott, Mass.) on a fielders choice. Chrissy Marotto (Southington, Conn.) would cap it off by smashing a home run a couple batters later and the hosts had the lead.

The Gulls added two in the second on a walk, single, sacrifice bunt, sacrifice fly, and an RBI single. Then Watts doubled in a run in the fourth and Raven Comtois (Milford, Conn.) chased her in with a single.

The hosts then polished off the run-rule win in the sixth as Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Spencer clubbed back-to-back home runs to send Roger Williams home for the summer.
