Field Hockey: Cenatiempo Sets Career Goals Mark, Hawks Fall to Johnson & Wales

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team saw a milestone reached Tuesday afternoon, but fell to Johnson & Wales 2-1 on Bayside Field on the campus of Roger Williams.

The Hawks outshot the Wildcats 8-4 on the day, but were unable to get past the Wildcats' Madison Flaxington more than once as she collected seven saves on the day.  Jill Haudenshield (Sykesville, Md.) and Hannah Brazil (East Sandwich, Mass.) stopped a shot each, before eventually falling to the Wildcats.

Roger Williams stuck first in the opening frame with 10 seconds remaining, when Kelly Doherty (Mansfield, Mass.) found Brooklyn Cenatiempo (Trumbull., Conn.) open for her first goal of the season.  The goal by Cenatiempo also marked a milestone for her as she over took Meghan Curran '16 as the Hawks all-time leader in goals with 33.

After a scoreless second quarter, the Wildcats scored in the opening six minutes of the third quarter, when Darian Shepherd broke through for her third goal of the season. After a pair of penalty corners by the Wildcats, Margaret Johnson passed the ball in off a corner attempt to Haley Budenas who fired a shot by the Hawks goalkeeper for the game winning goal.

Roger Williams (5-3, 0-2 CCC) will face Nichols in CCC play on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 pm at Vendetti Field, the Hawks will then host UMass Dartmouth on Monday, Oct. 3 at 7 pm.
